AirAsia X, the long-haul arm of Malaysia-based AirAsia, will spread its wings to the US for the first time later this year. The low-cost airline said in a regulatory filing Monday that it plans to begin four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Honolulu International Airport on 1 November.
Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun announced that plans are also underway to resume flights to Europe, a route the airline operated in 2012 but cancelled due to high fuel costs. He also said that the airline was working on streamlining its operations of AirAsia X and AirAsia, such as having one ground handling and renegotiating airport charges.
