SpiceJet’s active role in India’s Vande Bharat Mission saw the country’s ‘favourite carrier’ repatriate 160 stranded Indian nationals from Cebu to Chennai using a Boeing 737 aircraft, a press release confirmed.
The airline also arranged complimentary air travel for three Philippine citizens requiring liver treatment in Hyderabad on 12 September.
Four prior charter flights by the carrier between Manila and Delhi brought home around 700 Indians, and one flight from Delhi brought home 170 passengers holding Philippine passports.
The airline said it has operated more than 695 charter and 25 Vande Bharat flights to bring home more than 117,600 stranded citizens and foreign nationals from all corners of the globe.
SpiceJet emerged as India’s top cargo carrier during the pandemic as it operated over 6,694 cargo flights and moved over 46,405 tonnes of medicines, medical equipment and fresh produce in domestic and international routes since 25 March.
No cancellation fees
Amidst incredibly low passenger traffic, SpiceJet has also offered a zero-cancellation service in partnership with Liberty General Insurance for domestic travellers who book ahead of schedule.
Passengers can avail the offering through SpiceJet’s website and mobile site as a top-up insurance cover whilst booking the ticket. The service allows cancelling flight bookings up to 24 hours before departure and reimbursing cancellation charges in full.
