With reports about fulfilment centres maxing out capacity limits amidst growing ecommerce volumes, Lödige Industries is expanding its services for warehouses and distribution centres.

The company said the boom in e-commerce and e-fulfilment and the associated increase in demand for material handling solutions encouraged it to create a dedicated product segment.

“Due to the increased order volume in e-commerce, many existing facilities are reaching their capacity limits. Consequently, better utilisation of integrated automated storage and conveyor systems is increasingly becoming the means of choice to improve process speed and throughput rates,” says Philippe De Backer, CEO at Lödige Industries.

The chief sees the industry in Asia and the Middle East as developing dynamically with several new projects underway.

“We also expect several new projects in other parts of the world and that’s why we have decided to consolidate our decades of experience and know-how into a separate product segment and offer customers the complete range of services,” Philippe explained.

Amongst the projects that have been completed include the new DHL Dubai World Central facility, which can handle over 50,000 (57,600) daily shipments and the distribution and storage centre for a pharma manufacturing facility in Qassim, Saudi Arabia.

In July, Lodige offered its first automated guided vehicle as a pilot project for Swissport’s new air cargo terminal in Frankfurt. The project will start in November 2021 and marks an important step towards highly efficient and automated 24/7 operations.
