Maersk is adding more capacity and growing its end-to-end logistics offering in the North American as it acquired US-based home delivery and big and bulk specialist Pilot Freight Services for US$1.68b.

Pilot has 87 stations and hubs in North America with third-party providers of controlled trucking capacity, including FTL and LTL for both B2C and B2B distribution. The company also specialises in heavy and bulky shipments with white glove service for expedited and time-definite services.

With Maersk’s owned stations, the combined scale of both companies adds up to around 150 facilities in the US, including distribution centres, hubs and stations.

Narin Phol, regional managing director of Maersk North America, said the move comes as customers look to speed up their supply chains, remove handoffs and improve their omni-channel business models.

The Danish shipping line said it will continue to integrate supply chain infrastructure and add end-to-end services in the US. The company is adding more air freight capacity across the transatlantic upon the completed acquisition of Senator International in Q2 2022.

Last year, it took over Utah-based Visible Supply Chain Management to enhance its B2C and B2B e-fulfillment capabilities.
