Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced today its tonnage throughput for September 2009 was 47,182 tonnes, down 12 per cent compared with the same month last year. Export cargo registered 32,967 tonnes, a decline by 11 per cent against same period last year. Import cargo volume for September was 13,887 tonnes, recording a decrease of 14 per cent from last year. Transhipment cargo volume was 329 tonnes; representing a year-on-yeargrowth of 8 per cent.

The cumulative tonnage throughput from January to September 2009 was 351,725 tonnes, representing a year-onyear decrease of 24.5 per cent.

Accumulated export cargo volume was 230,133 tonnes; down 27 per cent while import cargo volume was 117,904 tonnes, recording a decrease of 20 per cent. The total transhipment volume up to September 2009 was 3,689 tonnes, up 15.8 per cent against same period last year.

AAT general manager, Corporate Development, Nelson Lee said: “ September performance showed further signs of improvement with the lowest year-onyear tonnage decline in 2009. Although tonnage is picking up, market still yet to be seen for sustainable recovery.”
