Cargo demand continues to recover: IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international scheduled traffic statistics for June which showed continued strong demand growth as the industry recovers from the impact of the global financial crisis. Asia-Pac sees continued cargo growth

More confirmation of the sustained recovery in the global air cargo market came today courtesy of the the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) with statistics showing that both air cargo and passenger markets continued to show further improvement in April despite a week of disruptions to traffic in and out of Europe as a result of the Icelandic volcanic eruption. Lufthansa Cargo boosts volume 13.8%

Lufthansa Cargo boosted freight traffic by 13.8 per cent in April from a year ago despite a five-day shutdown of its Frankfurt hub. The German carrier handled 129,000 tonnes of cargo compared with 113,000 tonnes in April 2009, taking volume for the first four months to 520,000 tonnes compared to 441,000 tonnes in the same period a year ago. HK’s AAT sees 12% decline throughput in Sept

Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) announced today its tonnage throughput for September 2009 was 47,182 tonnes, down 12 per cent compared with the same month last year. Export cargo registered 32,967 tonnes, a decline by 11 per cent against same period last year. Import cargo volume for September was 13,887 tonnes, recording a decrease of 14 per cent from last year. Airfreight rising faster than seafreight: Toll

Expressing sentiment expressed recently by a number of players in the airfreight industry, Toll Group chief executive Paul Little has said that airfreight was leading seafreight as the global economic recovery gathers steam.
