IATA growth not quite as good as it seems

October 2, 2009 by Payload Asia

The latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) figures for air cargo show a decline of 9.6 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) in August compared to declines of 11.3 per cent in July and 16.5 per cent in June. But that improving trend is not quite as good as it seems. Remember that it was this time last year when cargo traffic first dipped into negative territory, and so y-o-y comparisons are starting to get better. Comparing traffic figures to 2007 – the peak of the market - … [Read more...] about IATA growth not quite as good as it seems

Air cargo upturn underway, but “fragile”

September 4, 2009 by Payload Asia

Signs of a clear, but fragile recovery in air cargo demand are being driven by companies restocking inventories which have run low, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said on Thursday. But this pick up would remain “fragile” as long as economic recovery is driven by the inventory cycle, and not by increased consumption and business investment, IATA warned. International air freight demand was 11.3 per cent lower in July than the same month in 2008, a considerably … [Read more...] about Air cargo upturn underway, but “fragile”

Fraport traffic points to continued recovery trend

September 1, 2009 by Payload Asia

Fraport’s July cargo figures continue to suggest a recovery with Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) rate of decline in airfreight moving into the single-figure range for the first time this year. Freight throughput fell only 9.4 per cent year-on-year to 156,000 tonnes; in June the drop was still 16.5 per cent. “An early indicator of general economic development, airfreight continues its rise from the economic trough,” the airport operator said. With 40,462 takeoffs … [Read more...] about Fraport traffic points to continued recovery trend

Decline slows, but no recovery in sight: IATA

June 1, 2009 by Payload Asia

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its international traffic data for April which shows air freight continuing at very weak levels. International cargo was down 21.7 per cent in Aprilcompared to previous year levels. This is the fifth consecutive month in the -20 per cent range. “This sideways progression may indicate that we have seen the worst of the economic downturn,” IATA said in a statement. “Business confidence is improving, but … [Read more...] about Decline slows, but no recovery in sight: IATA
