Legendary Boeing aeronautical engineer Joe Sutter, credited with leading the development of the iconic 747 jetliner, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent 2010 Farnborough International Airshow. Aeroflot scolded for not buying ‘Made-in-Russia’
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reprimanded Aeroflot recently for not purchasing enough Russian-made planes, telling the state-run carrier's CEO, Vitaly Savelyev that growing profits and dividends were not its only concern. The airline recently announced plans to purchase a combined 44 planes from Boeing and Airbus, compared with 30 of Sukhoi's regional SuperJet, starting in 2016. Emirates marches on with $9B in new orders
Dubai's Emirates Airline has placed an order with Boeing for an additional 30 777-300ER aircraft, worth approximately US$9.1 billion at list prices. The new order adds to the fleet of 71 777-300ERs previously ordered, of which 53 aircraft are currently in service. The 777-300ER offers an additional cargo payload of 20.1 tonnes. UAC-Antonov joint venture in process
The Russian-Ukrainian joint venture UAC-Antonov, which aims to become the main structure to consolidate the aircraft building enterprises of the two countries, will likely be established by 1 October. It will be headed by Yuriy Grudinin, director general of civil subsidiary of UAC. The deputy chief designer of Antonov, Alexander Kiva will be appointed as deputy director general. China’s trade surplus rises in June
China's trade surplus was US$20 billion in June, the highest level in eight months, Bloomberg reported. The increase came largely thanks to surging exports, which were up 43.9 per cent year-on-year.
