IATA: Cargo drop slowed but yield still down
The year long decline in global air cargo slowed in July but revenue and freight rates remain under intense pressure, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Cargo volumes fell 11.3 per cent last month from July 2008, compared with a 16.5 per cent year-on-year decline in June and a 19.3 per cent average for the first seven months of the year, it said. US airline pilot union calling for battery ban
The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents pilots in the US and Canada, has asked the US government to ban shipments of lithium batteries on all cargo and passenger flights until measures are taken to ensure such shipments are safe. UPS opens first phase of Worldport expansion
United Parcel Service Inc. began operating the first phase of the US$1.1 billion Worldport expansion at Louisville International Airport last month. The first phase will allow UPS to expand its package-sorting capacity at the hub by 15 per cent, to 350,000 packages per hour, from 304,000 packages per hour.
