IATA: July air freight markets rise strongly
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing a strong increase in air cargo in July. Compared to July 2013, freight ton kilometres (FTKs) rose 5.8 per cent. This is an acceleration in growth from June when cargo demand grew at less than half that rate (2.4 per cent). Preliminary traffic figures for the month of July released today by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) show continued growth in both air freight demand and international passengers. Iceland volcano threatens Eyjafjallajökull repeat
The Icelandic Met Office in mid-August raised its aviation alert level to ‘orange’ as a result of activity in the Bardarbunga volcano, following a major earthquake, the largest in the area since 1996. On the five-color scale, orange sits one level below red, which denotes an active eruption, or one that is imminent.
