Air France-KLM Group said it expects a third-quarter loss as a result of lower passenger traffic and a “strong decline” in cargo revenue. “The deterioration in the economic environment during the third quarter has led to a slight weakening in passenger unit revenues and a strong decline in cargo revenue,” Air France said in the statement. European aircraft maker Airbus once again took top spot in global airliner production for the sixth year running in 2008, with a 7 per cent rise in deliveries, to a record 483 planes. Alitalia’s bankruptcy administrator is close to selling the cargo unit of Italy’s former state-owned airline. Etihad Airways is expanding its European services with the addition of its latest new route to Istanbul in Turkey. Turkey’s commercial capital will initially be served four times a week from 2 June, expanding to five flights a week from October.
