Qatar Airways has commenced services between Amsterdam and Doha with the inaugural flight landing at Schiphol Airport on 16 June, welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute. Iran’s Mahan Air has deployed the first of seven recently delivered A340-600s into revenue service from 1 June with services to Istanbul and Dubai. With US sanctions imposed on Iran since 1979, Iranian carriers are unable to source its capacity needs through traditional channels and are forced to use more obtuse acquisition method. Qatar Airways, the global launch customer of the A350 XWB, has chosen Philadelphia to be the first destination it will fly to in the USA using the aircraft. Etihad Cargo has increased its freighter services to Africa with the launch of a cargo only service from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Maya Maya Airport, Brazzaville (BZV), in the Republic of Congo. Operating twice weekly using a B777F freighter aircraft, the new service will fly from Abu Dhabi to Brazzaville via Lagos airport (LOS) in Nigeria.
