JAPAN: FedEx MD-11 crashes while landing at Narita
A FedEx cargo aircraft en route from China has crashed this morning while attempting to land at Tokyo’s Narita airport in strong winds, bursting into flames and killing two pilots on board. JAPAN: US$94 million in fines for Japanese cartel
Japan’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has ordered Nippon Express and 11 other transport companies to pay over US$94 million in fines for what the competition watchdog sees as their collective attempt to fix international air cargo charges,Kyodo News reported. The FTC also issued an order to the companies to discontinue the practice and urged the Japan Aircargo Forwarders Association to prevent a recurrence of a similar act. TAIWAN: Taiwanese seek additional cross-strait flights
Taiwanese carriers have requested around 340 scheduled flights weekly between the island and China, according to Dow Jones. Taiwan and China currently operate 108 cross-strait charter flights each week, with airlines from each side operating 54 flights.
