Grandstar Cargo International Airlines, the joint venture cargo carrier formed by Korean Air Cargo and Sinotrans is finally set to take to the skies after regulatory problems delayed their original plans to launch in middle of last year. The Tianjin- based cargo carrier will begin with a B747-400 freighter flying three times a week to Frankfurt. AFRICA: Two Nigerian airlines to start US flights
Two Lagos-based airlines, Arik Air and Virgin Nigeria, will start flying direct to the US this year. Harold Demurin, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted waiver to the domestic airlines. AMERICAS: DHL eyes train-plane option
The Deutsche Post subsidiary DHL Global Forwarding is evaluating combined rail-air shipments between Chinaand Germany. "We are presently looking into this model," confirmed DHL division's CEO Chris Fahy. AMERICAS: Northwest Cargo quits Singapore and Bangkok
Northwest Airlines has pulled out of Singapore and Bangkok. Effective January 1, the carrier stopped operating its six-days a week B747-200F service from Tokyo toSingapore and on to Bangkok before returning to Narita airport in Tokyo.
