Jazz don’t forget to wake me up !

May 1, 2010 by PLA Editor

Some people can’t sleep on planes at all...and apparently some can sleep all too well. Take Kris Lines, a British law professor who was seated in the rear of an Air Canada Jazz plane. After staying awake from London Heathrow all the way to Calgary, Canada he finally succumbed and decided to take a quick catnap on the 90-minute second leg of his journey to Vancouver. But when Prof Lines woke up, he discovered that his flight had landed nearly an hour and a half earlier and his … [Read more...] about Jazz don’t forget to wake me up !

COUGH, COUGH, HACK, HACK,

May 1, 2010 by PLA Editor

And so, we bring you the third consecutive instalment of guns-in-America...and we’ve even adopted a mascot! The governor of the US-state of Georgia (possibly the home of our new friend Yosemite), has a piece of legislation sitting on his desk that could make it legal for gun owners to carry their firearms into parts of the Hartsfield-Jackson … [Read more...] about COUGH, COUGH, HACK, HACK,

ULD & Perishables Supplement in June issue

May 1, 2010 by PLA Editor

Although ULDs have and continue to play a vital role in boosting the efficiency of loading and unloading cargo, their value is often overlooked by carriers and ground handlers alike. Technology has played a key role in advancing them from simple ‘tin cans’ to sophisticated composite structures and climate controlled air freight containers. In the ‘ULD & Perishables Supplement’, to be published in the upcoming June issue of Payload Asia, we will … [Read more...] about ULD & Perishables Supplement in June issue

China unveils cargo blueprint

May 1, 2010 by PLA Editor

At a recent air cargo summit in Beijing, one sentiment was repeated speaker-after-speaker, that being the fact that Chinese cargo carriers were losing out to foreign players when it comes to moving international cargo in China. Pointing out that the entire cargo capacity of Chinese carriers amounted to only 58 per cent of the total cargo capacity of just one European carrier – Lufthansa in this example – Professor Cao Yunchun of the Tianjin Civil Aviation University said … [Read more...] about China unveils cargo blueprint

EUROPE & CIS: It’s ABC for a pair of Beluga whales

May 1, 2010 by PLA Editor

AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has added Beluga whales to its growing list of successful live animal shipments. The airline carried two of the animals, weighing a combined 5.5 tonnes from Moscow to Beijing on board one of its six times weekly Boeing 747-400 freighterservices between the two cities. The whale, which is sometimes called sea canary due to its high-pitched twitter, can grow up to 16 feet in length.
