Capacity crunch stalls air cargo demand in August
Global air freight markets showed slow improvement amidst insufficient capacity, data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed. Asia Pacific airlines, in particular, saw air cargo demand fall 18.3 percent in August compared to the same period a year earlier, with capacity down 35 percent in the region. May passenger demand shows slight improvement, says IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that passenger demand in May (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPKs), dropped 91.3 percent compared to May 2019. This was a mild uptick from the 94 percent annual decline recorded in April 2020. Industry losses to top $84 billion in 2020, says IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its financial outlook for the global air transport industry showing that airlines are expected to lose $84.3 billion in 2020 for a net profit margin of -20.1 percent. Revenues will fall 50 percent to $419 billion from $838 billion in 2019.
