Italian flag carrier Alitalia has named Silvano Cassano as CEO of ‘new Atilalia’, which will become effective after it closes a major investment deal with Abu-Dhabi-based carrier Etihad Airways. Etihad Airways and Alitalia have finally sealed their partnership, making the financially troubled Italian legacy carrier the eighth airline in Etihad’s Equity Alliance. Resurrected Italian carrier Alitalia is re-establishing itself in the cargo market due in a large part to its 25 per cent owner, the Air France-KLM group.
