Jet Airways has launched its inaugural service to Riyadh, the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from the Indian financial capital of Mumbai complementing the airline’s existing daily Mumbai-Jeddah service. Dubai-based Emirates Airline is expanding its footprint in Africa with new services to South Africa and Angola. Starting from 1 October and 25 October respectively, Emirates will begin services via Dubai to Durban in South Africa with an A330-200 and Luanda in Angola utilising B777-300ERaircraft. CHINA: China Eastern in black, Shanghai Air sees red
China Eastern Airlines has returned to the black in the first half of 2009 with a net profit of CNY 1.174 billion (US$171.8 million), in a large part due to state subsidies and reduction of its losses from fuel hedging. TAIWAN: EVA Air sees cargo revenue plunge 51%
Taiwanese carrier EVA Air saw its cargo revenue plunge 51 per cent in the first half of this year as falling Asian exports sliced the carrier’s freight traffic by nearly a third.
