DHL Express continues Latin investment

February 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

DHL Express has opened a new advanced logistics gateway at Mexico City’s International Airport. The US$6.2 million facilities, which include a customer service call centre, were designed to significantly increase the company’s operational capacity and strengthen its Mexican and international network. Apart from the US, Mexico’s strongest trading partner, Canada and other Latin American markets, such as Colombia, Guatemala and Brazil, the top volume express trade lanes are … [Read more...] about DHL Express continues Latin investment

15 more B777 freighters for FedEx

February 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

Federal Express announced recently that its FedEx Express unit exercised options from a 2006 purchase agreement, to buy 15 more Boeing 777 freighters, worth US$3.75 billion at list prices. Although the move clearly bucks the current economic trouble, the express carrier did defer delivery of some of the planes with four B777s slated for delivery in FedEx’s fiscal 2010, four in fiscal 2011, three in each subsequent fiscal year until fiscal 2018, and the remaining one in fiscal 2019. … [Read more...] about 15 more B777 freighters for FedEx

FedEx to cancel Okay Air contract

February 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

FedEx Express, the world’s largest express delivery company, is to end its contract with troubled Okay Airways, opting instead for Yangtze River Express, a cargo airline controlled by HNA Group, to maintain its domestic express air network. The move is yet another setback for the Tianjin-based airline, which is desperately seeking to restart its passenger service before the Lunar New Year after a lack of cash and disputes between its investors forced its service suspension. The … [Read more...] about FedEx to cancel Okay Air contract

Indian Air Cargo Supplement for March issue

February 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

The Indian air cargo market had the second fastest growth rate in the world after China, with international volumes growing at an annual rate of 19 per cent and domestic cargo volumes at 34 per cent. And substantial and sorely needed investment in airport infrastructure has been a key priority of the Indian government over the past two to three years. While the global economic crisis clearly took the wind out the sails of India’s wildly growing aviation market, the bounce back is … [Read more...] about Indian Air Cargo Supplement for March issue

Editor’s Note

February 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

On behalf of the Payload Asia staff , I would like to apologise for the – apparently unforgivable – error in last month’s Bellyache. In the item entitled “Last minute gift idea”, a miscreant staffer, claiming to be a plane geek, misidentified the airplane in the accompanying photo....*GASP*! Never before has Bellyache’s email inbox been so full ! It truly gave us a bellyache. We realise now that we have it completely backwards – we are not the geeks … [Read more...] about Editor’s Note
