Cargo uptick to lift Q2 earnings for South Korea’s airlines

Korean Airlines seems to be moving back to profitability as its cargo business does well and helps balance the loss of passenger traffic, JoongAng Daily’s Jin Min-ji reports.  Amidst increasing freight rates and relatively lower fuel and labour costs, Korean Air Lines expects to report a net profit of KRW 149 billion (US$124 million) in the second quarter, according to Hanwha Investment & Securities. Asiana Airlines takes delivery of its first A350 XWB

Asiana Airlines of South Korea has taken delivery of its first A350-900, becoming the 12th airline to operate the world’s newest and most efficient twin engine wide body airliner. Asiana’s A350-900 is configured with a three class layout with a total of 311 seats, comprising 28 in Business Smartium, convertible to fully flat beds, 36 in Economy Smartium and 247 in the main cabin. Korean Air Cargo heads to Tehran with Uzbekistan Air

Korean Air Cargo and Uzbekistan Airways have reached an agreement on moving cargo from Korean's network to Tehran via Uzbekistan Air’s Navoi hub by tapping the Tashkent-based airline’s twice weekly 767-300F service to the Iranian capital. The deal extends a partnership already in place between the two carriers to feed cargo into Frankfurt from the Navoi hub. Portland-Asia cargo flight to be revived

Oregon governor Kate Brown has approved a fund of US$50,000 aimed at trying to ensure an air cargo service between Portland and Asia is resumed. Asiana orders 25 A321neo aircraft

Asiana Airlines has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Airbus for the purchase of 25 A321neo single aisle aircraft as part of its ongoing fleet modernisation programme. The new aircraft will be operated on the carrier’s regional services, as well as on selected domestic routes.
