European container ports are unlikely to be able to maintain the strong growth rates of the past three decades, Fitch Ratings says. Combined with the trend for ever-larger ships making fewer unloading stops, this makes risks highest for small- and medium-sized ports. CLARKSON Research's Container Intelligence Monthly predicts mainlane trade volumes on the Asia-Europe headhaul route will grow seven per cent to 15.6 million TEU in 2015, after the tradelane recorded 8 per cent year-on-year growth in the first nine months of this year. Drewry: shipping volumes to hit one billion teu by 2020
