DHL opens new packaging centre in Malaysia
DHL recently unveiled its DHL Asia Pacific Packaging Center in Shah Alam, Selangor to tap into the packaging market in Asia Pacific estimated to be worth up to US$12.5 billion. DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific expects to see this business grow by 15 per cent year-on-year over the next three years. DHL profit plunges 71 per cent, outlook uncertain
Depressed revenue and bad debts pushed profit in the second quarter down 71 per cent for the world’s biggest logistics company as Deutsche Post DHL warned of tough market conditions going forward. Profit plunged to US$93.7 million from $328 million a year ago. Mail, express, freight forwarding and contract logistics revenue all shrank by nearly 18 per cent to $15.8 billion. ABX Air lays off 1,000 more as DHL pulls outABX
Air, which sorts and carries packages for DHL, says it plans to lay off an additional 1,000 workers at its operation in western Ohio by the end of August, reducing the air carrier’s presence there to about 1,300 employees.
