Ethiopian begins freighter flights to Istanbul, Beirut
Ethiopian Cargo has begun new weekly freighter flights with B777-200 LR freighters to Istanbul and Beirut from 23 April. The newly launched flights will further strengthen ET’s cargo service to/from Liege (LGG) and Brussels (BRU) which are the carrier’s strategic hubs in Europe. Feb cargo down 1.8% at Brussels, Ethiopian may return
The total cargo volume at Brussels Airport dropped by 1.8 per cent in February with the decline minimised by the extra day in February, which accounts for three per cent of the total volume of the month. Thanks primarily to the leap day, belly cargo rose by 4.3 per cent and the volume of integrator cargo rose by 2.9 per cent in comparison with February last year. Brussels cargo still depressed over Ethiopian departure
Brussels Airport (BRU) saw freight volumes declining by 2.4 per cent in January 2016 compared with last year, as a result of the ongoing impact of the departure of Ethiopian Cargo, which did not obtain the necessary traffic rights for Belgium and ceased operations to the airport in the fourth quarter last year. Brussels enjoys robust 7.8% cargo growth in 2015
Brussels Airport wrapped up 2015 with a year of strong growth on both the passenger side (up 7.0 per cent) and cargo with a full 7.8 per cent growth over the previous year thanks to the full freighter and express segments.
