North Carolina-based SkyLease Cargo has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority to operate scheduled cargo (property and mail) flights between the US and Hong Kong via intermediate points and beyond to points in third countries. Lufthansa Cargo accident in Riyadh
A Lufthansa Cargo MD-11 freighter had an accident on 28 July at 11.38 am (local time) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The freighter, Flight LH 8460, was on route from Frankfurt to Hong Kong with stopovers in Riyadh and Sharjah. Martinair Cargo returned to San Jose, Costa Rica effective 7 May after temporarily suspending service since November 2008. A Zimbabwe-registered MD-11 freighter belonging to UK-based Avient Aviation crashed in flames on takeoff from Shanghai Pudong International Airport early Saturday morning, killing three crew members, and wounding four others, including one who remains in serious condition.
