PACTL sets new freight volume record in 2015

January 13, 2016 by PLA Editor

Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL) set a new record for freight volumes in 2015, achieving overall tonnage growth of 6.47 per cent year-on-year, having processed nearly 1.6 million tonnes of air freight. This result enabled the company to beat the previous annual record set in 2014.

PACTL’s overall import cargo volumes increased by 8.98 per cent compared to the previous year and rose to a total figure of 651,657 tonnes of air cargo. International imports soared by 9.39 per cent to 602,004 tonnes and domestic imports increased by 4.26 per cent to 49,653 tonnes.

Export cargo volumes grew by 4.81 per cent to a figure of 947,654 tonnes in total with international exports showing a growth rate of 4.42 per cent to 892,223 tonnes and domestic exports increasing by 11.51 per cent to 55,431 tonnes.

“Despite difficult market conditions, we were able to develop our business fully in line with our expectations. This is evident, for example, in the ongoing growth in international imports, which was caused by the rising demand for imported consumer goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and other high-value articles” says Lutz Grzegorz, VP of PACTL.

As a result of these positive developments, PACTL was able to further increase its market share in 2015. The company processed 49.4 per cent of the air cargo handled at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in 2015, an increase of 1.4 per cent in comparison with 2014. Currently PACTL is in the final steps of testing its new end-to-end cool chain facility following the start of trials in November 2015.
