Frankfurt airport receives "Excellence Award" in air cargo

April 11, 2017 by PLA Editor

Ingo Alexander Rahn (c.r.), Global Head of Air Freight at DHL Global Forwarding, hands over the certificate to J. Florian Pfaff (c.l.), Area Manager Germany at Lufthansa Cargo. Also present: Christopher Biaesch (l.), Key Account Manager in the sales team for Germany at Lufthansa Cargo, and Henk Venema (r.), Senior Vice President – Global Head of Network Carrier Management at DHL Global Forwarding.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) has been recognized as “highly acclaimed” in the best international airport category of the “STAT Trade Times International Award for Excellence in Air Cargo”. The award was presented to Fraport by the renowned “STAT Trade Times International” magazine on the occasion of the “Air Cargo Africa” international trade fair, which is currently being held in Johannesburg (South Africa). Frankfurt Airport had already been recognized as the best international freight airport at the “Air Cargo India” trade fair last year.

Fraport AG’s executive board member and COO Anke Giesen said at the awards ceremony: “We are continually working to offer our customers ever more efficient processes and new solutions. The award is yet another confirmation of the high quality that characterizes Frankfurt Airport as an airfreight location. At the same time, this honor motivates us to further strengthen our position as Europe’s leading freight airport. Our aim is to remain the most successful cargo hub in Europe while continuing to be an innovation leader in the field of digitalization.”

Air Cargo Africa is the most important airfreight trade fair on the African continent. Fraport is taking advantage of the presence of the stakeholders represented at the event to showcase its expertise by hosting the second “Shipper’s Forum”. Having successfully organized a “Shipper’s Forum” for the pharmaceutical industry in India in 2016, the company has repeated this event format in Johannesburg. This year’s forum focused on the automotive industry, the most important industry in bilateral economic relations between Germany and South Africa. The event provided supply-chain and logistics managers with a networking opportunity for discussing key topics, strategies February 23, 2017 and ideas. In 2016, more than 35,000 metric tons of freight were flown between South Africa and Frankfurt—an increase of 8.5 percent compared to 2015. With over 40 passenger and cargo flights weekly, South Africa is an important market and trading partner for Germany.

Frankfurt Airport is Europe’s largest freight airport and, with a cargo volume of 2.2 million metric tons in 2016, one of the ten largest freight airports worldwide. Thanks to its central location at the heart of Europe, optimal intermodal connections, outstanding infrastructure and systematic process digitalization, FRA offers conditions that cannot be found at any other aviation location in the world. As a result, Frankfurt has become the leading logistics powerhouse within European airfreight and a highly efficient logistics cluster in Germany. The attractiveness of Frankfurt Airport is not only attributable to its continuous traffic and freight growth but also to its integrated air and ground transportation networks, dynamic accumulation of expertise, close cooperation with partners and commitment to innovation. This includes FAIR@Link—a digital airfreight handling system developed by DAKOSY— which is being implemented at Frankfurt Airport to enable ever more efficient and accelerated processes.
