Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has won a five-year contract with Air France KLM Martinair Cargo at Brussels Airport, according to a press release.

WFS will provide handling services, including cargo, mail and truck handling, for the French carrier at its upcoming 25,000-sqm facility in the airport, for some 30,000 tonnes annually.

The €100 million new facility, located in Building 835 at Brussels Airport, will incorporate 3,000 square metres of cooling facilities for pharma and perishable shipments, a covered airside staging area and outside container storage.

Building 835 will be WFS’ second cargo terminal at Brussels Airport, after starting operations in Building 832 in February of last year. WFS described the earlier facility as a 9,400-sqm freight centre designed to support fast and efficient ground handling of cargo, as well as specialist trucking and forwarding services.

Marc Claesen, senior vice president – commercial for EMEAA at WFS, said the company is committed to the Belgian freight and logistics industry as well as Brussels Airport’s ambition to be one of Europe’s most important and professional cargo hubs.

“We are extremely proud that Air France KLM Martinair Cargo are extending their partnership with WFS in Europe as we continue to invest in our presence at Brussels Airport,” he expressed in a statement.

WFS added that its 17 airline customers in Brussels, as well as freight forwarding clients, can benefit from the latest technologies, including a slot booking app to expedite truck handling times and kiosks and self-acceptance systems for faster cargo acceptance.

Last year, WFS became the first handler to win the BRUcargo Award, presented annually by Brussels Airport Company to recognise and incentivise service excellence.
