Japan Airlines (JAL) is looking to provide better user experience for its cargo customers and partners and manage costs by replacing multiple legacy systems and migrating its operations to the cloud.
The carrier is now using IBS Software’s iCargo Cargo Terminal Operation (CTO) for Japan to cover the import, export, transfers, as well as warehouse and airport operations across its domestic and international network.
Despite the volatile conditions caused by the coronavirus, IBS said the go-live implementation took place seamlessly.
“JAL’s deployment of iCargo CTO for Japan was planned to go live in two phases to take into account the complexity of the transformation due to business and message volume, frequency of flights and the number of airports involved,” the company said.
On top of core import, export and warehouse functions, the iCargo CTO for Japan also features iOS- or Android-supported handled operations, truck handling and docking management, auto-rack support, auto damage capture and ‘additional advanced capabilities’.

IBS Software said it adapted the iCargo platform for the Japanese logistics market with NACCS (Nippon Automated Cargo And Port Consolidated System) reporting capabilities directly within the product.
NACCS is a system used in Japan’s logistics space for the electronic processing of air/sea cargo. The platform provides information for public and private stakeholders in the supply chain to allow faster and more efficient customs clearance and movement of freight.
“By using iCargo CTO for Japan, JAL will benefit from reimagined digital processes, recognizing the advantages of cost rationalization and risk reduction by migrating operations to the cloud,”Ashok Rajan, senior vice president and head of cargo and logistics at IBS Software, said in a statement.
