Other months but the same trend for Liege Airport which recorded its eighth month of growth in a row. In August, both in terms of aircraft movements and tonnage carried, Liege Airport did even better than in August 2023.
In August 2024, the number of cargo aircraft movements was up 9% on August 2023 (2,152 vs. 1,970). And tonnage rose from 77,949 tons in August 2023 to 85,904 tons in August 2024, a 10% increase!
E-commerce is playing an increasingly important role in air transport, as Xeneta explains: “August’s global cargo supply grew at its slowest ratio in 2024 to-date at 2% year-on-year, while global cargo demand continued its double-digit growth, rising +11%. The increase was further supported by ocean-to-air shift due to Red Sea disruptions and e-commerce demand. E-commerce continued to show strong growth as the air cargo market continued to cruise towards its hotly anticipated peak season.”
Liege Airport is becoming more and more attractive, welcoming new cargo airlines and logistics providers. For Torsten Wefers, VP Sales & Marketing, this year reinforces the airport’s status, “Even in the usual low season period Liege Airport is continuing its very positive cargo traffic development, cementing its position as leading European freighter hub.”
