Cainiao delivers national distribution centre to leading Brazilian express firm, boosting parcel sorting efficiency by 7x

May 22, 2025 by PLA Editor

Cainiao, a global leader in smart logistics and logistics technology, recently delivered a national-level automated distribution centre to a leading cross-border express delivery company in Brazil, significantly increasing sorting efficiency by 7 times.

Located in São Paulo, the facility serves both cross-border and domestic deliveries for the logistics firm. Previously reliant on manual sorting, the company faced growing pressure as parcel volumes surged with the increase in trade between China and Brazil. Traditional sorting methods could no longer keep pace with business demand.

The new distribution hub features Cainiao’s proprietary intelligent sorting and digital operation systems and is capable of handling nearly one million parcels per day. It is now the company’s primary sorting hub in Brazil, a key node for the South American market, and one of the most advanced cross-border logistics centres in the region.

Tailored to local market needs, Cainiao has equipped the facility with a double-layer intelligent sorting machine enhanced by AI technology. The system supports over 300 destinations and integrates advanced features such as weight detection, volume measurement, and high-precision recognition with 99.9% accuracy. It also fully complies with European CE standards.

Beyond hardware, the system includes robust digital capabilities that generate real-time sorting visuals, operational dashboards, and data analytics to help customers optimise efficiency across the supply chain. Compared to traditional manual processes, the system delivers more than 7x efficiency gains, reduces operational costs by 40%, and significantly improves sorting accuracy. To ensure seamless delivery of the project, Cainiao closely collaborated with local partners that also supported local job creation.

China—home to the world’s largest express delivery market—is fast becoming a global benchmark for logistics innovation and efficiency. As more global logistics companies look to China for inspiration and best practices, Cainiao has emerged as a key industry leader. With the rare combination of a global logistics network and in-house R&D capabilities, Cainiao is uniquely positioned to scale and commercialise advanced logistics technologies, delivering smart, efficient solutions to partners around the world.

Today, Cainiao continues to advance its AI-powered logistics strategy. Its L4 autonomous delivery vehicles are now commercially available and operating in over 30 regions across China. Globally, Cainiao’s automation and digitalisation projects have been deployed in more than 600 locations across 28 countries.
