Liege Airport reports robust Q2 growth, up 14.5%

July 11, 2025 by PLA Editor

Liege Airport confirms its leading role in European air freight. In Q2 (April, May and June), the airport handled 330,184 tons of cargo, up 14,5% on the same period in 2024 (288,298 tons). In terms of movements, 7,120 cargo flights were operated, up 7,7% on Q2 of 2024 (6,609 cargo flights).

For Torsten Wefers, VP Sales & Marketing, development continues in line with LGG’s master plan: “We continued to perform very well in the 2nd quarter, with tonnage up on. This is encouraging, but the market remains uncertain. The outlook for the coming months is positive. With our new brand “CargoLand”, where “Freight meets Magic”, we are the air cargo place to be in Europe with new airlines (from 41 to 51) and new logistics providers (from 50 to 61). From MRO to e-commerce, pharma and perishables, to express cargo, CargoLand offers commodity-specific, tailored cargo processes based on advanced technology, whether it is strong digital tracking of shipments or GSE, optimum route planning, or real-time cargo movement management. CargoLand is offering multimodal solutions and will deliver a success and customer-oriented commercial approach that will leave a lasting imprint on the European logistics landscape.”

For the first 6 months of 2025, the airport recorded 13,892 cargo aircraft movements, an increase of 7% on the same period in 2024 (12,987 movements). Tonnage from January to June 2025 was up 10% at 626,690 tons (compared with 568,776 tons from January to June 2024).

Despite the climate of uncertainty, with threats of customs tariffs, the fall in the dollar, the unrest in the Middle East and a highly unstable geopolitical context, the airport is not facing any weakness in its growing business and in particular in the trade relations with the United States. On the contrary, since January 2025 more than 101,000 tons import and export transited through our warehouses, representing a growth of 34,5% compared with the same period in 2024 (75,000 tons)!

Growth ahead of the global trend
According to preliminary data published by WorldACD Market Data, the global air freight market grew by +2% in June and +4% for Q2: “On a global basis, worldwide flown air cargo tonnages in June were +2% higher than in June last year, although they fell by -4% compared with the previous month. Preliminary figures for the second quarter (Q2) of 2025 indicate that worldwide flown chargeable weight in the three months to 30 June was up by +4%, on both a year-on-year (YoY) and quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) basis. For the first six months of 2025, tonnages increased, YoY, with chargeable weight up by +3%.”

“We are pulling the pack upwards and the ambitions of the operators give us confidence for the coming months”, concludes Torsten Wefers.
