Fraport reports passenger and cargo growth in August 2025

September 12, 2025 by PLA Editor

In August 2025, some 6.3 million passengers traveled via Frankfurt Airport (FRA), 4.1 percent more than a year before. Summer holidays ensured consistently high demand during the month. Especially on weekends and the days before and after them (Fridays and Mondays), more than 200,000 travelers a day took advantage of Germany’s gateway to the world. The year’s largest daily volume to date was achieved on August 3 with 221,360 passengers. The classic European holiday regions experienced strong growth, including Italy (up 17.9 percent), Greece (up 13.0 percent) and France (up 7.5 percent). The surge in travelers to Norway and the Czech Republic was especially marked, increasing by 21.8 percent and 34.7 percent, respectively. Looking at long-haul routes, mainly countries in the Middle East benefited from the resumption of air travel to that region, including Lebanon (up 197.8 percent) and Israel (up 189.2 percent). Traffic volumes to the Far East also surged, with particularly strong demand for holiday destinations such as Sri Lanka (up 157.7 percent) and Thailand (up 43.0 percent).

FRA’s cargo volume during the month under review expanded by 1.0 percent to 174,388 metric tons. Aircraft movements climbed by 6.4 percent to 42,946 takeoffs and landings. And the sum of maximum takeoff weights (or MTOWs) reached approximately 2.6 million metric tons, 2.9 percent more than in the corresponding month of 2024.

Across the Group, the airports in Fraport’s international portfolio also registered growth in August 2025. At Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia, the total passenger count rose by 11.7 percent year-on-year to 186,226. The airports at Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA) in Brazil, combined, served 1.2 million passengers, for a 98.8 percent increase due to a special effect: a year earlier, massive flooding around Porto Alegre had made it necessary to close the airport for several months, negatively impacting the overall passenger volume. The number of passengers using the airport at Lima (LIM), Peru, grew by 2.4 percent to around 2.3 million. Fraport’s 14 airports in Greece also enjoyed strong demand with a total of 6.8 million passengers, 4.0 percent more than the preceding year. In Bulgaria, the Twin Star airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) welcomed 857,211 travelers, up 6.9 percent. The volume at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera also gained 3.2 percent to reach about 6.0 million passengers.

The total number of passengers across all of the airports actively managed by Fraport rose to around 23.6 million in August 2025, 6.4 percent more than last year.
