Singapore upgrades air services agreements with Argentina and Turkiye to strengthen air connectivity

Singapore has upgraded its Air Services Agreements (ASAs) with Argentina and Türkiye, to facilitate air travel and strengthen Singapore’s air connectivity. The ASAs were signed by Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) with Mr Oscar Alfredo Villabona, National Administrator of Civil Aviation, Argentina’s National Civil Aviation Administration and Prof. Dr. Kemal Yüksek, Director-General, Türkiye’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation respectively on 25 September 2025, in Montreal, Canada on the side of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) 42nd Assembly.

Singapore and Argentina have upgraded their ASA, which was signed in 1997, to an Open Skies Agreement (OSA), enabling designated airlines of both countries to operate passenger and cargo services between and beyond the two countries without any restriction on frequency, capacity, routing, and aircraft type. Currently, designated airlines of Singapore and Argentina are subject to routing restrictions for operations beyond Singapore and points in Argentina. An OSA is the most liberal type of ASA. The OSA between Singapore and Argentina marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations and brings the two States even closer together.

Singapore and Türkiye have expanded their ASA, which was last upgraded in 2014, to allow carriers of both sides to operate up to 17 weekly passenger services between Singapore and points in Türkiye. In addition, carriers of both sides may operate up to four weekly all-cargo services between and beyond Singapore and points in Türkiye. Currently, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines operate four and 14 weekly non-stop passenger services, respectively, between Singapore and Istanbul. Singapore has to-date signed ASAs with over 140 countries and territories; more than 80 of these are OSAs.

Mr Han Kok Juan, Director-General of CAAS said, “The upgrading of Singapore’s air service agreements with Argentina and Türkiye is an expression of our shared desire to better connect with each other and to bring our people and businesses even closer together. They allow airlines to start new routes, increase flight frequencies and establish strategic airline partnerships to provide new travel options.”
