The foundation to Global GSA Group’s success as one of Europe’s leading GSSAs is its people, all of whom share a passion for both air freight and customer excellence. Boris Blagojevic-Lee, Managing Director at Mondial Airline Services, Global GSA Group’s German subsidiary, celebrates his 20th year in the air cargo industry this year. He shares his story and what his tagline, ‘Air Cargo with a heartbeat’, means to him.
“I didn’t actively choose this industry at the beginning,” Boris Blagojevic-Lee reveals, “I grew into it.” Like so many others, his initial path into the air cargo industry was by chance and driven by the need for a steady income. “A neighbour of mine was working for a local Ground Handling Agent and suggested I join, as they urgently needed staff. That’s how I started, from the ground up: physical export and import handling to documentation and customs clearance, the full operational picture.”
This grounding provided him with a comprehensive operational perspective and hands-on, practical experience. Two years later, Boris took a pivotal step by joining a start-up all-cargo airline, ACG Air Cargo Germany. “That was a turning point. The workload was intense, but so was the level of trust and responsibility,” he explains. “That environment is where my passion for the industry really developed.” It was a demanding position marked by a high degree of trust and responsibility, where he dealt with commercial matters as well as critical areas such as traffic rights, flight operations, and network planning. That broad exposure continues to shape the way he views the industry today, while his commercial approach is encapsulated in his LinkedIn tagline: ‘Air cargo with a heartbeat’.
“For me, air cargo is not just a business, it’s something I genuinely care about.” This mindset influences every aspect of his work, from decision-making to project management. “I naturally think in processes and outcomes. I want things to work, to improve, and ultimately to succeed. That’s what ‘with a heartbeat’ means to me, not just doing the job but taking ownership of it.”
That ownership is visible in his achievements at Mondial Airline Services in Germany. “When I joined Mondial in Germany, I saw a clear opportunity to build something that goes beyond traditional standards in our industry,” he details. Under his leadership, the organisation has focused on both people and structure: nurturing personal development, fostering a diverse and open team culture, and facilitating direct, accessible communication with customers and airlines. Mondial is modern and performance-driven, yet remains approachable, internally and externally.
Boris’s two decades in the industry have taught him that growth is a continuous process: “Over the years, I have had the chance to work with and learn from a wide range of people and companies. Understanding different perspectives and comparing approaches has been one of the most valuable experiences for me, and what has shaped me most is the ability to look at situations from multiple angles and not rely on one fixed way of thinking. That helps in decision-making and in building teams that can adapt and perform.”
When asked what differentiates a high-performing GSA team, Boris emphasises two essential qualities: ownership within the team structure and continuous development. He believes that strong teams are built on individuals who take responsibility for their roles while contributing to the bigger picture. Equally important is the willingness to learn, improve, and gain experience over time: a commitment that separates average teams from exceptional ones.
Boris Blagojevic-Lee stands out in the air cargo sector as a leader who values both operational excellence and a human touch. His journey reflects a drive to elevate industry standards, create high-performing teams, and approach every challenge with genuine care and commitment, making Mondial Airline Services a beacon of innovation within the Global GSA Group portfolio.
