AERION orchestrates new three-year partnership between ECS Group and Royal Brunei Airlines

June 23, 2026 by PLA Editor

AERION, the commercial powerhouse of the group’s integrated cargo ecosystem, has orchestrated the renewal of a three-year partnership between ECS Group and Royal Brunei Airlines, supporting the airline’s future network growth in line with its upcoming fleet expansion plans.

AERION brings together the strengths of ECS Group, CargoTech and the wider group’s abilities into one integrated commercial proposition for airlines. In this renewed partnership, ECS Group remains the key GSSA partner for Royal Brunei Airlines, while AERION provides the broader strategic framework, commercial coordination and digital ecosystem designed to accelerate performance.

The agreement came into effect on April 1, 2026 and will remain valid until March 31, 2029.

The contract was signed at a ceremony at the Royal Brunei Academy in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

Through ECS Group, and within the broader AERION ecosystem, Royal Brunei Airlines is currently represented in 12 countries across 17 cities spanning Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East and North America, with the partnership successfully expanding into Indonesia and Japan.

Joshua Law, Chief Commercial Officer of Royal Brunei Airlines, said, “Royal Brunei Airlines currently operates a modern and fuel-efficient fleet of 12 aircraft, comprising five Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners and seven Airbus A320neo aircraft. As part of our long-term growth strategy and commitment to enhancing connectivity across our network, we placed an order for four additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in 2024, with deliveries scheduled in 2028.

Our partnership has continued to flourish through strong collaboration, aligned commercial objectives and a shared commitment to delivering value for our customers. Close engagement across represented markets, regular business reviews, transparent communication and responsive support have all played an important role in strengthening this successful relationship.

As we look ahead, Royal Brunei Airlines remains focused on growing demand across our key strategic markets, including Australia, Singapore, London and Hong Kong, which continue to be among our strongest and most important destinations.”

Adrien Thominet, Chairman of AERION, added, “Through ECS Group, we currently manage and support more than 13,000 tons of annual cargo capacity across the Royal Brunei Airlines network.

Over the past few years, the partnership has successfully strengthened Royal Brunei Airlines’ commercial cargo presence across key Asia-Pacific markets and improved market coverage. The collaboration has also delivered stable cargo performance despite ongoing market volatility and operational challenges across the region.

With AERION, we are taking this partnership one step further by combining proven GSSA expertise with digital intelligence, operational coordination and specialised cargo know-how through a single commercial platform, creating a more coordinated, more profitable and more powerful framework to support the airline’s cargo growth ambitions.”

The strategic focus for the coming years will include expanding cargo market penetration across Asia-Pacific, strengthening high-yield verticals such as pharmaceuticals, perishables, electronics and e-commerce. This will support Royal Brunei Airlines’ future network growth in line with its upcoming fleet expansion plans.

AERION will coordinate the resources of the group’s ecosystem, including ECS Group’s commercial network and CargoTech’s digital solutions, to support the digitalisation of Royal Brunei Airlines’ cargo activities, utilising relevant tools to strengthen business development and commercial performance.

In addition, ECS Group and Royal Brunei Airlines plan to further enhance collaboration through the establishment of a dedicated “Control Tower” approach, orchestrated within the AERION ecosystem. The two parties will work closely on network-wide capacity planning and revenue management optimisation. This initiative will support better demand forecasting, improved load factor performance and more agile decision-making across the cargo network. Digitalisation, service excellence and closer customer engagement will also remain key priorities moving forward.

The partnership also enhances service consistency, operational efficiency and access to AERION’s integrated commercial platform, combining ECS Group’s established GSSA expertise with the group’s broader digital, operational and specialised cargo abilities.
