FedEx Express to open US$30 million Clark facility in April

Logistics provider FedEx Express on 6 October revealed its newest gateway facility in Clark, Philippines, north of Manila, which is valued over US$30 million and scheduled to open in April next year.

The 17,000-square-meter facility, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, is expected to speed up sorting capabilities to 9,000 documents and parcels per hour. It will have dedicated areas to process large heavyweight freight.

FedEx said the facility would reduce the delivery time to Northern Luzon by 2 hours, and will extend the cut-off time for customers in Northern Luzon and Cebu.

“Moving our Philippines gateway to Clark will enhance our ability to serve customers across the Philippines, given the expansion of Clark International Airport and a 24/7 Customs clearance operation,” shared John Peterson, FedEx Express Philippines’ managing director.

Peterson added that ongoing infrastructure projects in the country will decrease travel time and decongest Metro Manila.

“The expansion of the company’s operations here in the north will definitely complement the transport infrastructure projects we are building to provide enhanced mobility and connectivity across the country,” said Secretary Arthur Tugade of the Department of Transportation.

The unveiling marked the express transport company’s 36 years of operations in the country. FedEx said the facility is the latest in a series of strategic investments the company has made in the region to enhance “service coverage and customer experience.”

In 2017, FedEx invested in two facilities amounting to US$2.15 million. One is a software development centre in Taguig and another is a trade facilitation centre in Clark for clearance preparation to support Asia-Pacific markets, including Japan and Singapore.
