Things are looking good for Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair, as of May, with traffic figures for the month showing positive growth in the number of passengers carried by the two airlines, though growth failed to keep pace with the increase in capacity. China has earmarked RMB64 billion (US$9.3 billion) for air cargo development, including a new airport for Beijing. China's Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) has said Chinese airlines must collaborate to cut costs arising from higher fuel prices. Air France-KLM and China Southern Airlines have signed a Framework Agreement for the development of a Sino-European Cargo Joint Venture which is expected to receive the necessary approvals by year-end. The newly formed company is to be named AE Cargo (Asia-Europe Cargo), in which Air France will not hold more than 25 per cent of the shares. The French-Dutch airline will however provide the CEO.
