Boeing and Azerbaijan Airlines have signed an agreement to substitute two next-generation B737 airplanes for one B767-300ER (extended range) and two B767 freighters. Cargo demand continues to recover: IATA
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international scheduled traffic statistics for June which showed continued strong demand growth as the industry recovers from the impact of the global financial crisis. Compared to June 2009, international scheduled freight traffic showed a healthy 26.5 per cent improvement while international passenger demand was up 11.9 per cent. Emirates adds another 30 B777-300ERs
Dubai-based Emirates placed an order with Boeing for an additional 30 B777-300ER aircraft, worth approximately US$9.1 billion at list prices. The new order adds to the fleet of 71 777-300ERs previously ordered, of which 53 aircraft are currently in service. Boeing should replace 777 not 737: Analyst
Boeing’s top priority should be replacing its 777 widebody jet, not the 737 narrowbody, according to J.P. Morgan analyst Joseph Nadol who warned that Airbus’s new A350XWB widebody family, which is scheduled to enter service in 2015, already is eating into 777 sales. Legendary Boeing aeronautical engineer Joe Sutter, credited with leading the development of the iconic 747 jetliner, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent 2010 Farnborough International Airshow.
