China moved closer to its stated ambition of manufacturing a large commercial passenger aircraft with Aviation Industries of China's (AVIC), launch of its commercial engine company in Shanghai recently. EADS drops US acquisition to save money
European aerospace group EADS said it had abandoned a "significant" acquisition in the US in order to conserve cash and support Airbus plane sales to crisis-hit airlines. The Airbus parent company is under pressure to offer financing to buyers to ensure they honour contracts. Air cargo firms appeal UAE Antonov ban
UAE air cargo companies have joined forces to appeal against a decision by the General Civil Aviation Authority banning Antonov An-12 airplanes from UAE airspace. Federal Express announced on Monday that its FedEx Express unit exercised options from a 2006 purchase agreement, to buy 15 more Boeing 777 freighters, worth US$3.75 billion at list prices, Although the move clearly bucks the current economic trouble, the express carrier did defer delivery of some of the planes with four B777s slated for delivery in FedEx's fiscal 2010, four in fiscal 2011, three in each subsequent fiscal year until fiscal 2018, and the remaining one in fiscal 2019.
