Speaking at the AAPA’s 57th Assembly of Presidents in Hong Kong this November, AAPA director general Andrew Herdman said the association had already broadened the geographical definition of the Asia Pacific region similar to that of the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) to include India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. While India has not been directly approached by the AAPA, in part because the carriers there tend to be more domestic in nature and those … [Read more...] about AAPA widens scope while promoting Asian voice

IATA urges industry-wide action on quality
In a sobering reveal to air cargo journalists at its annual Cargo Media Day briefing in Geneva in early December, IATA’s global head of cargo, Des Vertannes spoke frankly of the accusations being leveled at the industry. That these accusations come as the industry continues to struggle with nearly a three-year long stretch of severe market malaise makes not just the acknowledgement, but the pressing need for action, all the more poignant. “There are things we need to do as an … [Read more...] about IATA urges industry-wide action on quality

Maersk misjudged container-shipping demand
The chief executive of Danish shipping group Maersk Line said recently that the company misjudged the strength in demand for container shipping, which has proved far more sluggish than it expected when it ordered billions of dollars' worth of new vessels two years ago. The world's biggest container shipper is now counting on the planned P3 cargo-sharing alliance with European rivals CMA CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Co. to cut costs and reduce the number of their ships plying major routes … [Read more...] about Maersk misjudged container-shipping demand
