Atlas air enjoys improved demand in tight market

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. announced strong revenues and earnings for the second quarter of 2010, driven by what it said was a continuing improvement in airfreight demand, a tight supply environment, a significant increase in commercial charter volumes and rates, and continued strength in military demand. Azerbaijan Airlines orders two B767 freighters

Boeing and Azerbaijan Airlines have signed an agreement to substitute two next-generation B737 airplanes for one B767-300ER (extended range) and two B767 freighters. "With its centralised geographic location, Azerbaijan is becoming a busy hub in the region between east and west and north and south," said Jahangir Askerov, president of the Baku, Azerbaijan-based carrier. Boeing’s latest update to its annual market outlook notes that the world freighter fleet is forecast to increase from 1,750 to 2,980 aircraft by 2029. This growth is made up of roughly 740 new-production freighters and 1,750 passenger conversions. AMERICAS: Cargojet sells freighter business to SkyLink

Cargojet Income Fund, Canada’s leading domestic premium overnight air cargo network operator, announced today that it has sold its 55 per cent interest in the Cargojet Regional Partnership to SkyLink Express Inc. for a CDN$3.2 million (US$3.1 million) promissory note secured by aircraft owned by SL Express. AMERICAS: AEI wins orders for 2 more 737-400SF conversions

The Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has ordered two 737-400SF 11-pallet configuration passenger-to-freighter conversions from Aeronautical Engineers Inc (AEI). The first aircraft was built in 1991 and is currently undergoing freighter modification and maintenance. The second is expected to be inducted for conversion by year-end. Boeing is forecasting a US$3.6 trillion market for new commercial airplanes over the next 20 years as world economies rebound and strong demand for new and replacement aircraft spurs growth.
