Europe/CIS: Three-way deal to reduce emissions

IATA, Eurocontrol and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation announced a three-way deal to “expedite efficiency improvements in European air traffic management” that will achieve annual savings of 470,000 tonnes of fuel, US$550 million and 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, according to the trio. Europe/CIS: Finnair grapples to find cost-savings

Finnair said recently that it has given its employee groups two weeks to examine three possible cost-saving alternatives. A spokesperson told Reuters that one option is a salary cut of 5 per cent across the company, the second a 15-month salary freeze and the third 400 layoffs. Lufthansa will take over Brussels Airlines, the carriers announced recently, in a deal that potentially values the Belgian carrier at €250 million (US$355.6 million) and could pave the way for its entry into Star Alliance. Airbus and GKN have signed a contract under which GKN will purchase the wing component and assemblies manufacturing unit based at Airbus’ site at Filton, near Bristol, UK. This includes all operational business, assets and activities being transferred to GKN.
