AMERICAS: US airline groups seek US$4 billion in aid

A broad coalition of US airline and aerospace industry trade groups is reportedly seeking a US$4 billion slice of the economic stimulus package being mulled over by the incoming Obama administration, Dow Jones reported. AMERICAS: Chilean, Brazilian, Israeli airlines fined US$125 M

LAN Cargo S.A., Aerolinhas Brasileiras and EL AL Israel Airlines Ltd have agreed to plead guilty to conspiring to fix air freight prices, according to the US Justice Department. The three companies will pay criminal fi nes totaling $124.7 million. LAN Cargo and Aerolinhas Brasileiras, which is substantially owned by LAN Cargo, will pay a combined fine of US$109 million while EL AL will pay a US$15.7 million fine, the Justice Department said. EUROPE & CIS: FlyLAL ceases operations

FlyLAL Lithuanian Airlines ceased operations recently after its acquisition by SCH Swiss Capital Holdings for €1 million plus an agreement to cover debt of an additional €1 million, fell through.
