Air cargo volumes in Thailand slumped by almost 50 per cent in January as the global financial crisis continued to hurt exports. Thai Airways International foresees revenue falling 18 per cent this year, from Bt220 billion (US$6.2 billion) to Bt180billion, due to the economic turmoil. Board chairman Surachai Tansitpong said the airline planned to reduce annual operating costs 5-10 per cent, with an immediate 3 per cent cut which will save about Bt6 billion alone. Asia’s major air cargo and logistics event, Air Freight Asia, has appointed Hong Kong-based China Logistics Club (CLC) as its official representative for the exhibition, which will take place at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong from 8-10 September. HONG KONG: Cathay ups Paris, Shanghai and Jakarta
Cathay Pacific is to increase frequencies to Paris, Shanghai and Jakarta from 29 March, “in response to sustained customer demand”.
