United Cargo is working with Envirotainer, a provider of temperature-controlled air cargo containers. “With our extensive global network and widebody capacity, United is wellpositioned to serve the needs … [Read more...] about AMERICAS: United Cargo launches temp control service

AMERICAS: GE Aviation, FAA research ATC

September 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and GE Aviation have signed a cooperative research and development agreement to study how manned and unmanned aircraft can share commercial airspace. GE Aviation and the FAA will look at air traffic control systems that would allow commercial airliners operating under instrument rules to fly directly to their destinations. Currently, such aircraft fly a jagged route along designated airways that use ground-based radio beacons to guide them. … [Read more...] about AMERICAS: GE Aviation, FAA research ATC

AMERICAS: US government’s global warming bill: $8B

September 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

It will cost nearly US$8 billion over the next decade to pay for the expanded federal bureaucracy needed to combat global warming under a bill passed by the House of Representatives, a report by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says. The budget office also found that the House bill would shrink the federal deficit in that 10-year period because it requires businesses to buy permits to emit global-warming pollution. That would add hundreds of billions of dollars to federal … [Read more...] about AMERICAS: US government’s global warming bill: $8B

AMERICAS: Continental to join Star Alliance in Oct

September 1, 2009 by PLA Editor

Continental Airlines said this week that it expected to join the Star Alliance on 27 October, three days after leaving the rival SkyTeam grouping. The Houston-based carrier has managed to maintain its schedule for the transfer–the first defection between the three alliances, which also includes Oneworld, that dominate the global airline sector–despite a longer-thanexpected approval process from US regulators. Continental opted to exit SkyTeam, which is led by Delta … [Read more...] about AMERICAS: Continental to join Star Alliance in Oct
