THAILAND: Bangkok cargo cost warning

Logistics operators in Thailand have warned that operating costs will soar 80 percent if cargo handling is to be duplicated across two airports with the reopening of Bangkok¡¯s Don Muang Airport. A spokesman for the Thai Airfreight Forwarders Association, Kovit Thanyarattakul, was reported saying that the move late last year to the new Suvarnabhumi Airport had already resulted in 50 percent added costs for operators. PHILIPPINES: Schenker completes BAX integration

A new logistics company has started its operations in the Philippines that will provide a full suite of services such as multi-modal freight, logistics, and supply chain management. PHILIPPINES: Gulf Air to boost cargo capability

Gulf Air is ordering nine new wide-bodied aircraft to boost its cargo capability. A report by the Bulletin quoted Roberto Hukom, Gulf Air Philippines country manager that the new aircraft will boost not only the airline's cargo capacity but also its ability to transport more passengers through its network. JAPAN: Kansai Airport planning to double cargo capacity

Kansai Airport said it will double the capacity of its air cargo terminal in plans made by the airport operating firm for the second phase of construction, The Yomiuri Shimbun reported. The airport, located on an artificial island in Izumisano, Osaka Prefecture, is set to open its second runway on Aug. 2. JAPAN: JAL to launch new routes with B767Fs

Japan Air Lines (JAL) has announced that following the introduction of new B767 freighters this summer, it will launch cargo flights to Tianjin and Qingdao from July 2007 and to Jakarta from October 2007. During the coming year JAL will also retire older B747 freighters and increase the number of B747-400Fs in its fleet.
