Suvarnabhumi airport faces bird threat

Birds have been involved in 48 minor collisions with planes at Suvarnabhumi airport, according to the Bangkok Post. Thousands of birds are said to be attracted by drainage canals around the runways and food on nearby farms. Airports of Thailand (AoT), which runs Suvarnabhumi, monitored the runways after pilots voiced their fears. The AoT found that the most serious threat came from open-billed storks, which gather in flocks of up to 700 and can grow to around 80cm in length. Record throughput for Munich Airport

Munich Airport has set all-time records for total passengers, aircraft movements and cargo. The new record for airfreight throughput for the first three quarters of the operating year is now 184,000 tonnes, an increase of nearly 13 per cent over the first nine months of 2006. Singapore welcomes Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways’ inaugural flight to Singapore touched down on 28 September from Abu Dhabi marking the commencement of six weekly flights between Brisbane in Australia and Abu Dhabi, with a stopover at Singapore.
