Air Logistics Asia

A recovery in the works?

January 30, 2014 by PLA Editor

This month’s edition of Payload provides an interesting glimpse into the current state of the industry and where it could, perhaps, be headed. The latest International Air Transport Association (IATA) figures show a small but glimmering light at the end of what has seemed like and endless and very dark tunnel. Consecutive months of cargo demand growth – albeit fairly small – have continued to grow gradually larger and perhaps most important for the global industry, Asian demand … [Read more...] about A recovery in the works?

Oops, we did it again!

January 20, 2014 by PLA Editor

Oops, we did it again! This week’s belly ache is brought to you courtesy of the Somalian Captain Jack Sparrow and his duet partner Britney Spears. And it’s an item that should help, if not only to bring a little cheer to the hearts and minds of the air cargo world, then at least to highlight that the ocean side of the cargo business also has its unique problems! It seems that some supertanker operators have come up with a rather novel plan for combating the rampant piracy … [Read more...] about Oops, we did it again!

IATA chief urges closer cooperation

January 20, 2014 by PLA Editor

In highlighting the importance of air cargo, not just to global airlines, but the global economy, Tyler laid out the difficulties facing the industry and appealed to the carriers’ partners to help boost the value proposition of air freight. “We have to make sure air cargo has a strong value proposition. The industry is having a tough time – and shippers are having an equally tough time. We need to develop a higher level of trust with one another… We are partners in a … [Read more...] about IATA chief urges closer cooperation

Air France-KLM Cargo sticks with maindeck

January 20, 2014 by PLA Editor

Speaking to press in Amsterdam recently, senior cargo executives representing the component airlines of the Franco-Dutch airline group said significant changes within the industry were behind this decision to scale back its freighter capacity. “We see at this moment a more belly-dominant trend rather than a freight-dominant trend,” said Erik Varwijk, executive VP of AF-KLM-MA Cargo. “We see the number of freighters around the world decreasing and at this moment our view … [Read more...] about Air France-KLM Cargo sticks with maindeck

Blue Dart confident of its network and strategy

January 20, 2014 by PLA Editor

In an interview with Payload Asia, just prior to the awards, Anil Khanna, Blue Dart managing director noted that the current global slowdown has hit India worse than the major economic upheaval of 2008/09. “Even in 2008/09 when global GDP growth fell to almost 4.5 per cent, India still had over six per cent GDP growth, down from the 2007 figure of about seven per cent.” With India’s GDP growth now hovering at around five per cent “it’s the worst in a decade,” … [Read more...] about Blue Dart confident of its network and strategy

Another year’s awards have successfully come to a heady conclusion and a huge thank you is due to a great many people and organisations for making the event an even bigger success than last year! For all those that were present on the Gala evening – who clearly seemed to be enjoying themselves, I might add! – the kind sponsors for the evening – AirAsia Cargo and Etihad Cargo – and of course all the great and deserving companies who entered the awards and who will … [Read more...] about Payload Awards 2014, mark it on your calendar!
