AMERICAS : Boeing delivers 700th 777

Boeing delivered its 700th Boeing 777 airplane, a 777-300ER (Extended Range), to International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) and its customer, Cathay Pacific Airways recently. The 777 Program reached this milestone after 12 years in service -- faster than any other twin-aisle airplane program in commercial aviation history. AMERICAS : US airlines cut capacity as oil prices surge

At least four of the major US airlines have either announced plans to reduce capacity or warned they are considering cuts, as the industry flies straight into a storm cloud comprised of a weakening economy and rising oil prices. Both United and Delta revealed plans to remove 15-20 aircraft from their mainline fleets this year. Delta also plans to reduce employee numbers by 2,000. AMERICAS : Boeing reworking 787 wing box

Boeing has acknowledged that it has "found the need for some improvements" on the 787, specifically in the centre wing box, and that the fixes are underway for those aircraft undergoing assembly. Northwest Air Cargo has reached an agreement with DHL on a guaranteed block space contract through 2011 that will maintain DHL as one of Northwest's top customers. Boeing recently delivered the first widebody 777-200LR (longer range) airplane for a US carrier to Delta Air Lines. The airplane is the first of eight Boeing 777-200LRs ordered by Delta Air Lines, enhancing the airline's ability to connect customers and cargo between virtually any two cities around the globe, nonstop.
