Air France-KLM said the planned purchase of Alitalia would create a European champion and the airline would not abandon Milan's airport hub. French unions issued conditional backing recently to proposals by Airbus to assemble the freight version of the A330 in the US if it wins a contract to provide refueling planes to the Pentagon. CHINA: Chinese airlines' 11 month profit triples
Chinese carriers enjoyed a bountiful 2007 as they collectively earned a profit of RMB17 billion (US$2.3 billion) in the first 11 months of last year, more than triple the RMB5.5 billion posted in the same period of 2006, newly appointed Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC) Minister Li Jiaxiangsaid recently.
